Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 11

Something that was long overdue, the command figures for the Marauder Miniatures MB1 Dwarfs with pikes. It's only when I started editing the pictures I realised I forgot to finish their noses with my trademark "red nose". This omission was quickly rectified but by then the good light was gone, so you'll have to do with these pictures for now.

The champion. It's a great figure, but I don't think I did justice to it. I feel I could have picked the colours better.

The standard bearer. A great figure that I decided to put some extra care in, with the striped trousers. The banner is made from my usual material of stiff, posable foil (the kind you find in little dishes for chinese food, premade lasagna's, etc... Since I don't eat that stuff, I simply bought some empty ones which can also be had in a lot of places).

I'm rather happy with the little flag, even though the best part of it is hidden. It's a simplistic design, far from the little masterpieces others craft for their standarbearers. I remembered to take a picture before gluing it on, but after adding the curves. The shield looks asymmetrical in the picture because of the curve, but it's not.

The musician, this is the least interesting figure of the three, but quite possibly the single example of a dwarf playing a flute. And it's still a good figure in it's own right too.

And finally, a couple long overdue group shots of the unit so far (25 dwarfs, more to add). They are a mixture of WK dwarfs, Marauder originals and a few marauder conversions.

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 10

Two more figures for the pikedwarf unit, this time original Marauder minis.

The first one is the one from the legendary MM15 set, which explains why he got a bit more attention from the sculptor. It's a single part model and looks great. I'm pretty happy with how he came out, as I think the colours work for him.

The second one is one of the marauder dwarfs with plug-in weapons (pikes, crossbows and handguns were made for them), and since I already painted copies of this body for my handgunners and crossbows, it's a bit less interesting, though I did manage to come up with another colour scheme for him that's different enough from my previous copies, while still respecting the general scheme.

A quick picture with similarly armed "WK" dwarfs:

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 9

Another one for the pike unit, this time one of my plug-in types. Highlights sort of got washed out in the pictures. Unit is now 20 pikes strong, I will bring it up to 30 (including command) and then, after I rounded out some of the other units, I may expand it to a block of 40 or 50.

Seen here with the two halberdiers I did at the same time:

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 8

Another three dwarfs with pikes. One is the Marauder MB1 Sergeant figure, the other two are from the second infantry set of my commissioned dwarves.

First the Marauder sergeant. This has been one of my favourite marauder dwarfs for a long time, so glad I could finally slap some paint on it. I wasn't too sure about some of the choices midpainting,  but in the end, I think he came out pretty well.

Secondly, one of my dwarfs, using the "amish" looking head. It's one of the best heads in the set IMO and it works well with this body. I also used one of the separate swords in scabbards to add some more detail:

The last one is also from the second core infantry set and is probably the combination of parts that has the most puff & slash for that much craved for landsknecht mercenary feel. Even his hat has them!

Some more pictures, the first of the 4 body poses from set two, the second a (non-exhaustive) selection of poses from sets 1-3, all armed with pikes.

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 7

Another of pikeman from the second infantry set (attention poses). While the highlights don't show up well in the pictures, I'm actually quite happy with this one. Painting the little pouch green also helped to break the monotony that is starting to creep in the group due to repetition of the colourscheme. I will add more little touches like that on the occasional figure.

And here he is with the front rank halberdier I painted at the same time. They clearly shopped in the same store for their helmets.

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 6

I thought I'd try my hand at a couple mastercastings of infantry sets two and three (next in line for productionmoulding). I equipped both with spears/pikes and I think they turned out pretty well.

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 5

4 more Dwarf pikemen painted, not Marauder this time, but a selection of my privately commissioned multipart figures.

Perhaps the grey beard doesn't work all that well, but I wanted a colour that would contrast well with the bright yellow overcoat.

For some reason, this one gives me a vibe of Warwick Davis with a fake beard:

Simple metal for this one's armour. I know the decorated nature would allow something more elaborate, but I'll save that for something else than your basic trooper. Though at some point I may consider doing a complete unit all made up from this body (with different heads of course).

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 4

Two more converted pikes. The bandana-headed figure got an all new hat and a real beard. A hard figure to modify without cutting it up. I ended up giving him a beard extension, a feather and a bowtie sash. Group shot:

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 3

Not enough natural light to take pictures by, but it'll have to do. 3 more Marauder dwarves, all three converted to look a little different:

Hair- and beardextensions and a sash were added:

New beard and puffy sleeves and pants were added:
Beardextensions, new sleeves and pants and a feather in the hat.

Dwarfs with Pikes - Part 2

Been a while since I finished anything. Three more Marauder dwarf pikemen (unconverted).
